Physical and mechanical properties of laminated wood made from heat-treated Scotch pine reinforced with carbon fiber

Laminated veneer lumber (LVL) and reinforced laminated (RLVL) with carbon fiber were produced from heat-treated Scotch pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) wood using phenol formaldehyde (PF), polyvinyl acetate (PVAc), polyurethane (PU) resins. Wood veneers subjected to heat treatments at 150 °C, 170 or 190 °C for 2 h before lamination. The effects of the reinforcement, treatment temperatures, resins on properties LVL RLVL analyzed. Density, equilibrium moisture content (EMC), modulus rupture (MOR), elasticity (MOE) evaluated. results showed that MOR MOE values solid specimens decreased increasing temperature. However, reinforcement increased both MOE. In addition, density all improved, EMC altered significantly test specimens. Compared samples, highest by approximately 21% in PF-RLVL samples. Similarly, 31% conclusion, fiber, one most used fabric types composites, could be utilized manufacture veneers.
